In George Orwell’s novel 1984, he writes this book in in the year of 1949 to warn people about the dangers and consequences of totalitarianism. Totalitarianism is a political system where the state recognizes no limits to its authority and and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever possible. In 1984 the state of Oceania works to practice totalitarian rule, through the use of psychological and physical control of the people that live in Oceania. While researching I was able to find that if a parent attempts to parent their child through psychological control, the developmental outcomes could result in increased emotional distress, as well as negative self views. With this being stated it is fair to assume that the reason it has this effect on children is because it intrudes upon that child's ability to think freely and make their own judgement on many topics that may be influenced by the way or how a parent chooses to discipline and parent their child. The same rules apply in 1984 with the anti junior sex league. The people have been fed the same rules for years and years so they believe this is the only thing that is right, most people in Oceania not agree with the anti sex law but are forced to obey it because the state is so strict and obsessed with making everyone understand and live by the exact same rules with the exact same opinion. This is where the base of the whole mind control idea evolves from. When the state does not get their way their way this is what they result to. This type of control is very beneficial to the state of 1984. One was is that, when everyone has the same thought process it makes everyday life run much smoother.
