In our society, technology provides safety to the American people from any disaster waiting to happen. The U.S Department of Homeland Security organized the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) for security and safety to prevent events similar to the September 11, 2001 attack. When George Orwell wrote 1984 it was intended as fiction, but some similarities have come to pass. As much our technology keep on advancing the country remain independent from Totalitarian like Big Brother because liberal Americans would hate Big Brother dictatorships instead of loving him. Big Brother can be anyone who has a higher authority, but this country established laws like Bill Of Rights for individual liberties. Winston, the main character of 1984 work for the government to constantly rewriting records and altering photographs, creating a new version of history. He said "if all records told the same tale, then the lie passed into history and became truth." (Pg 44) The truth becomes difficult for citizens to know because big brother corrupt everyone with lies. Winston begins writing in his diary, he commits his first crime a act of rebellion against the Party by creating a piece of evidence that exists outside himself. Winston commits his second crime when a sexual intercourse with a woman that begin their allegiance against the Party and Big Brother. Eventually, Winston is caught in the act and spends next few months being tortured in order to change his way of thinking.
