25th Hour depicts the final day of a convicted drug dealer in New York City, soon imprisoned for seven years. The screenplay commences when the protagonist Monty Brogan rescues a black pit-bull that has been abused and injured. Although Kostya Novonty who is a buddy of Monty for drug dealing opposes to take care of the pit-bull, Monty gets custody of the dog. Four years later, Monty sits in a park with the pit-bull now named Doyle. Although Monty severs his connections with the drug dealing, his customer, Simon pesters him to sell the drug. Later, Monty visits a privileged high school to see his old friend Jakob Einsky who has a feeling for one of his students, Mary D’ Annunzio. Monty sees Mary at the club and invites her to join his farewell party. Slattery tells Jakob that Monty has no future and Monty deserves his sentence for his crime, Slattery suggests Monty that they can open a bar together after Monty is released from prison. Slattery becomes emotional when he talks to Naturelle that they did not stop Monty although they clearly knew Monty was doing unmoral things. Meanwhile, Jacob kisses Mary but they go their separate ways.
When Monty and Kostya visits uncle Blue who is a boss of drug dealing, Monty discovers that Kostya was the one who betrayed him. Although Blue suggests to kill Kostya, Monty walks out of the room and goes home to apologize Naturee.
At the park, Monty asks Slattery to punch his face to increase his chance of survival in prison. Although Slattery refuses, Monty deliberately provokes him. Eventually Slattery leaves Monty bruised and bloody, with a broken nose. Monty transfers custody of Doyle to Jacob and goes home.
Monty’s freedom soon finishes. On the drives to FDR, Monty’s father suggests Monty to stay away from New York and hides oneself until the storm blows over. In the end, Monty pictures his future where Monty reunites and have children with
