On July 4, 1836 a new star was added. This flag was known as the 25th- star flag. They added a new star because Arkansas had now become part of the nation. Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren both served as presidents while this flag was the official flag. In 1837 congress decided to add another star. This flag was the 26th-star flag. This version of the flag lasted for eight years before they changed it again. Congress added a star to the flag because Michigan had now joined the U.S. While this flag was official four presidents served under this flag. Those presidents were Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and lastly James Polk.

The cause for this star was because California was being added to the United States on July 4, 1851. Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan were presidents while this flag represented the nation. This flag would then last seven years of being official until they made the 32nd-star flag. The creation for this flag was because Minnesota was joining the United States. Congress made it the official flag on July 4, 1858.
