The Populist party was outright radical in their thinking between the relationship of the Government and their people. Taxing private business was a huge ordeal because with the expansion of the railroads and telegraph lines, that was one of the Governments only ways to fund the projects and keep expanding. A way to combat this was the Populist ideal of making the Government responsible for owning the communication and travel throughout the United States. The Populist party had also pushed for a silver currency instead of gold. For the first few years an unlimited production of silver coins would then give a value to the gold standard and allow farmers to pay taxes on their land for instance. The Populist parties slogan was “for the people,” however much debate could be brought to the table in as radical as the views were, too much instability would be a product of these unregulated actions at the current time.

The country was manufacturing and producing it own resources and goods. Massive grants from the government agencies provided capital for business to expand and promoted industrial and agricultural developments. Railroads were being built at a rapid rate to connect commercial farming and creating a truly national market for manufactured goods. Telegraph was invented and being used to communicate to the world and tie its resources together.
