I conducted a 35-minute phone Interview with DR. Diane Esposito. She was born and raised in Pennsylvania but currently lives in Jupiter, Florida with husband and three children. Degrees that she has obtained include, RN BSN, Psych ARNP PHD and CNS. She is currently working as an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern university at West Palm beach campus and as a Psych ARNP at Futures of Palm beach practice. She has been an RN since 1987, 29 years and an ARNP since 1991, 17 years. First job as a Psych ARNP was in an out- patient center in Weston Florida called Dr. Deborah Gorin MD. Esposito, you can’t treat an individual patient in isolation. This is why creating Ecomaps help to know the dynamics of the family and stressors that are affecting the patient’s mood or behavior. Dr Esposito Specializes in Psych as a Nurse practitioner. She told me she treats many mood disorders including; depression, schizophrenia, bipolar and PTSD to name a few. She also treats eating disorders and substance abuse disorders such as: heroin, opioids, alcohol and cannabis. She said that sometimes the substance abuse is what creates the mood disorder in individuals. For example, patients with several years of cannabis abuse can have long term memory impairments. Also patients with severe years of alcohol abuse can have depression or patients with several years of opioid abuse can develop mood disorders. Dr Esposito described the life of a Psych ARNP as a detective when doing patient evaluations using DSM5 because you are inquiring details and creating your differential diagnosis. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, is the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) classification and diagnostic tool. In the United States the DSM serves as a universal authority for psychiatric diagnosis. But psych patients can be tricky to investigate at times and may not give accurate information so as a psych ARNP you have your own set of methods or tools to bring out the information needed from the
