The 40 plus year Drug War is an utter failure, not just in terms of its failure of achieving its chief goal of of eradicating the drug menace from society, but also when you take into account the societal repercussions the war has wrought.
What, as a society, can we show for the Drug War? Well, for starters, we have the most populated prison population in the world, thanks in part, to drug arrests. Also, the police have militarized, which can be traced back to a law passed in the 1980s which allowed for the transfer of surplus military grade weaponry to police departments.
