Music genres can illustrate current events within any decade. Within the sound of the music to the lyrical literature written in the song, music is a way to express ones opinions or beliefs. Looking back on the decades and seeing a time line of events through the ages, I can compare the currents chart topping songs to the events and how the songs demonstrate the feelings or opinions of society at the time. Whether it’s the feel good era of the 50s or the angry teen era of the 90s, music represents society. Within the 70s many things were happening, the Vietnam War was currently taking place, radio and media were becoming huge, and teens were consuming pot like there lives depended on it. All of these factors heavily affected the music culture. Rock was huge. Rock and Roll was playing from every radio of every vista cruiser within the towns. There was Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, ACDC, and many more. At the time of the Vietnam War, people were angry. No one wanted to go into this war. This was the time of peace, love, and sticking it to the man. These feelings were heavily carried on from the late 60s. They leave that role to the poor.” This is a very obviously stated opinion of the current day politicians of the time. They’re revealing they’re very anti war opinions as well as anti government, questioning why the politicians are not out fighting and instead the poor of our country are on the battlefield. But, while listening to the song, I don’t have a sense of urgency like I need to get up and do something about this problem. Instead, I have more a chill vibe, like I just want to sit and rock out to this ballad of war pigs. The lyrics say “Time will tell on their power minds
