ntroduction

How does it make you feel when you see America being a target for terrorist attacks? Security measures initiated since 9/11 like the Patriot Act and Homeland security act are helping to prevent terrorist attacks. Theses measures are responsible for the termination of many possible attacks every year. It is for this reason that my partner and I must uphold the pro side of the debate on the resolution.

Resolved:The Benefits of post 9/11 security measures outweigh the harms to personal freedoms.

The three main arguments that promote the resolution are:
1: Increased security helps to prevent terrorist attacks
2: The use of new scanning methods will further discourage terrorist attacks and eliminate hassles associated with security.

New types of body scanners like the thermal imaging Alfa3 will create faster, safer and much more effective ways of scanning according to its inventor Dr. Naomi Alexander of Alfa Imaging. Alexander who earned a Ph.D. in Mm-wave physics from the University of Reading and has over 8 years experience in mm-wave imaging and processing techniques explains that the Alfa3 can see heat differences between items and the body. The Alfa3 can detect non-metallic objects like liquids and gels which normal scanners cannot detect. Also unlike the normal scanners the Alfa3 uses a higher resolution, which means that the Alfa3 will make fewer mistakes and automatically detect malicious items.
In addition to being more effective as a means of detecting malicious items, the Alfa3 or other new technoligies will eliminate the need for some of the time-consuming steps at airport checkpoints as passengers will no longer need to remove shoes and coats when passing through security according to a CNN report.

Third Contention: Increased security measures provide information which has allowed the US to take a more proactive role in the fight against
