How have airports changed their security after the attacks on 9/11. Nearly 3,000 people were killed and 2,500 people were contaminated by the attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11. However, airports in all parts of the United States have hyped up their security by added more employees and added stronger equipment. Airport security in the United States has changed since 9/11 because more on board security, more airport security, and more TSA employees.
Airport security has changed since 9/11 because there is more on board security. Pilots are now allowed to carry a loaded gun aboard the plane and air marshals are allowed to carry a weapon when they are on board a plane(Villemez). Many disturbances have occurred on board of planes, on one of the planes the terrorists had attacked the plane personnel. They did not have any way to protect themselves so this addition will help with that problem. The planes now have reinforced cockpits. (Atkins). There is now better screening at checkpoints. (Atkins). Better screening can help prevent people from bringing things on a plane that they are not allowed to bring. Now you are required to take your shoes off at a checkpoint. Some airports have K9 units that help out at the airports. (Costello). These K9 units are important because they help patrol who comes in and out of the airport. There are also there to ask the travelers where they are going and why. Many new requirements have been added to promote the safety of civilians. (Costello). Some new requirements are you have to have an ID and Boarding pass at the security screening and you must take out laptops at the screening area.
