Historical Background Terrorism is the unlawful use of violence and intimidation to coerce people or a government, especially when used upon civilians, when trying to pursue political aims or advances. Terrorism and terrorist attacks have gone on for as long as anyone can remember. One example could be back in 1793 during the French Revolution, The Reign of Terror. The people of France wanted a revolution. They wanted a change in the government and they wanted more freedom, but the government didn’t want to change. So when the people started to revolt in the streets, government soldiers induced terror in order to prevent civil war. Islamic terrorism is the most serious form of terrorism worldwide. The group al-Qaeda is an Islamic terrorist group that opposing anything other than an Islamic government and ideals force of violence. Many people think that Muslims are the terrorist, but that isn’t the case. The motives of terrorists are to destroy anyone who doesn’t believe in what they do. The motivation for the attacks on 9/11 was a hatred for the freedom that Americans had, which Bin Laden had said in his video to the American people. Back during the French Revolution with The Reign of Terror, people had many different views based on their beliefs. This caused many problems resulting in a lot of violence. A more modern day problem is ISIS. They are an Islamic terrorist group similar to al-Qaeda. ISIS hates the modern world and other Muslims trying to live in the modern world. These are Islamic extremists and don’t believe in any other religion, government, and ideals then their own. If you are not apart of ISIS you are considered a “disbeliever”, meaning you don’t worship Allah. One example could be the 9/11 terrorist attack on New York City caused over 3 trillion dollars worth of damage. Terrorism has caused the risk of owning a business even higher, and it has also increased the cost of owning one. After 9/11, security was increased everywhere especially the airport. 9/11 impacted the people of the United States by increasing the feeling of fear and risk in everyday life. Another example could be ISIS in Syria. ISIS has caused more than half of Syria’s population, 11 million people, to leave their homes behind. 5 million of these people even had to flee the country. Children here have it the worst, they’ve lost parents and loved one’s, had to drop out of school, and suffered from physical injuries and mental trauma as well. These children are at an increased risk of getting sick, becoming malnourished, exploited, and even abused, because of the Syrian refugee crisis. Another impact that terrorism has done is rip Muslim people of their their name and their religion. The word “Islamic” and “Muslim” is linked to terrorism by many people in the world. Islamic extremists have changed the Islamic religion into a whole new one. Many countries have built up a wall against Muslims because the impact of
