In the story “A Cleaned, Well-Lighted Place”, the difference between how people can comprehend others is shown by the old waiter understands the deaf guy better than the young waiter does because they had gone through similar experiences-- they were both lonely. The deaf guy was isolated from the society because of his disability. The older waiter lacked “everything but work”, “never had confident” and he was “not young”.
