Have you ever read a poem about a modernist hero? Or have you ever heard of E. A. Robinson? Well Robinson is a very popular poet that wrote two poem called "Mr. Floods Party," and "Richard Cory." In both of these poems it talks about a modernist hero. While this hero isn't one that wears a cape and has superpowers but impacts people around him and helps them in life. There is many characteristics that a person must obey to become a modernist hero. For instance the person must be relatable, realistic, ambiguous, redeemable, and must have a flaw. If a person has all of these traits then they can be a modernist hero like Mr. Flood in "Mr. Flood's Party" and Richard in "Richard Cory." Many poems that are about a modernist hero are narrative poems. Richard Cory and Mr. Flood both are modernist heroes in their poems because they have all the traits that a modernist hero needs

E. A. Robinson uses this kind of method to show a bigger picture in both of these poems. In "Richard Cory" the townspeople almost worship Richard for how rich he was and they wanted to be as rich as him. So the townspeople decided to work extremely hard and to stop buying meat and buy bread to save every little bit of money they could to become like Richard one day. But little did they know that Richard Cory also had major suicidal issues and ending up killing himself because sad and depressed he was and that money couldn't buy happiness or love. In my eyes this was a symbol to the readers and the townspeople that don't wish to be like someone else because they are rich or wealthiness doesn't by happiness. While the symbol in "Mr. Floods Party" is by getting older you start to lose things and people you love. For example got older he lost his friends and basically lost some of his mind from being lonely. Therefore the bigger picture is with age comes
