Summary of chapter 1- Robert skipped school and he saw a cow giving birth and he tried to save the baby calf ,but when the boy tried to take something out of a cow's mouth the cow bit him and he got hurt. When he was trying to help the calf out of the mama he tied a rope around the calf's hoof and tried to pull it out. A Day No Pigs Would Die begins with a boy cutting school. His name is Robert Peck, though the book does not name him until Chapter 2.

Summary of chapter 2-
Robert was getting his arm stuck, because the cow got mad at him when he tried to get the thing out of his mouth. When he get home he didn’t get in trouble for skipping school, but even though he got hurt he felt proud when he helped the cow give birth

Summary of chapter 3- Mr. Tanner gave Robert a pig to keep and he named him Pinky. After being in bed for almost a week, on Saturday morning, Robert goes down the stairs for breakfast. He times his healing so that he can be well enough to move on Saturday and have two days without school. Robert does his best to fake fake limp, Haven is not fooled, and immediately after breakfast, the two go out to mend the fence between the Tanner farm and their farm.

They have a conversation about how Papa can't write or read. Robert slept with Pinky in the hay for the first night. As Robert and Haven finish up their work on the fence and head home for lunch, Pinky becomes more and more a part of the family. She plays around sniffing their heels and follows them back to the house. Mrs. Peck and Aunt Carrie both agree that "Pinky the prettiest pig they have ever saw," but they still won't let him into the house for
