For a long as I can remember, it has been my goal to go to a UC. This school system is the perfect mixture between high level learning and cost effectiveness. A UC seems like a university at which I am supposed to end. As a first generation college student, my parents are naturally anxious about my departure but going to a Californian University would allow me to be relatively close to my family but not too close. That has always been a huge consideration.
Being a first generation college student has really shaped my academic career. While at times, this identity made the learning process more difficult, seeing my parents struggle and knowing that their hardships could have been rectified with a college degree has acted as a powerful motivator.
