A Five-Star scholar represents the epitome of the well-rounded student. A student who contributes as much to their work and their community as they do to themselves. I believe that I well represent the qualities of independence, integrity, excellence, fairness, and professionalism each day through my self-presentation, work ethic, and general kindness. First, independence is engrained into my being. Growing up as an only child with two working parents gave me the opportunity to structure myself and build my personality through experiences instead of through the passing down of opinions. My leadership ability is prominently shown in my selection to be part of band council. Band council is a group of senior band students who represent the ideals of leadership, integrity, helpfulness, and playing capability. Similarly, in class discussions or senior meetings I often find myself steering the discussion and keeping the topics on track and focused. Second, integrity has steered the direction of my major. At first I believed I wanted to be an accountant, however, following the recent rollback of an internet privacy bill by the house and senate, I have changed my focus to political science. For me, my grades and extracurriculars represent my never-ending work toward being the best I can be. Last year I began fencing - a sport I knew nothing about - but through hard work, practice, and training I keep working to be the best I can be at my skill level. Additionally, I work at Truline Industries, a factory that produces bearings for airplane engines. The precision and exactness required for the job is intense as any flaw in the part could lead to a vital failure in the engine of a plane. The job has taught me that thoroughness is required and each day every worker needs to strive for excellence in order to keep planes in the air and the travelling force
