A Good Man Is Hard to find by Mary O'Connor is a short story about a down home southern American family that goes on vacation, only for it to end with the entire family being killed. The style of this short story is simple and direct, there are several examples of imagery; It also has instances of exact details, such as "they left Atlanta at eight forty-five with the mileage on the car at 55890." (Pg 297) The style almost gives an informal feel, perhaps it is because of the type of diction used. The diction is very informal, using phrases such as "Ain't she cute" ( Pg 299), " He didn't have any britches on." (Pg 298) or "Two fellers" Pg 300. Typically in a formal diction exact formal words are used, informal slang would not be appropriate.
