A Loaf of Bread is an inquisitive and thought provoking short story on resistance which has been inspired by Chimanada Adichie’s 305 Marguerite Cartwright Avenue. The story focuses on a young man, in his journey for freedom, who is oppressed in a political dictatorship where poverty is rampant and where the dictator (Father Christmas) is worshipped in a similar fashion to a religious figure.
I have utilised many stylistic and literary features from this text with the most prominent and significant being the use of anecdotes to give the reader an insight to the protagonist’s past as well as to deepen characterisation.
