I remember the moment quite vividly when my dad sat us down in the living room one Sunday after church. The idea of moving had been an unspoken happening for a couple of months, but in that instant it became reality. I can think back to the moment quite well. I was sitting on the couch expecting something nowhere near the timid question that followed the silence, “how would you guys feel about moving?” Asking us this simple question, knowing that in truth there is only one right answer, unless we wanted a guiltiness to follow our conscious around like an unforgiving puppy. Immediately a flood of tears ensued as I asked the unexpressed question “Where?” In the month it took us to pack all of our possessions, say goodbye to friends, and buy a new house, all the fear that accompanied the idea of living in a foreign place was gone and I was beyond ready to begin a new phase of life.
Moving, although difficult, taught me a multitude of lessons and gave me new experiences that most people never get the opportunity to have. I was moved out of my comfort zone in so many ways. The first noticeable

I chose to adapt. Adapting to your environment is important to thriving. Forced out of my comfort zone I made new friends, participated in new activities, and found a way to live a life I loved. Doing all of these and more takes a lot of emotional and mental strength, but I needed to be committed in order to thrive in my environment.
At the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse, I feel that through my life experiences and commitments I can help to enhance the campus. I have a desire to learn about cultures other than my own, and I feel that moving has allowed me to appreciate people who are different than myself. I am dedicated to emerging myself into new activities and becoming involved in the college community. Through all of this I hope that the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse becomes a place that I can thrive
