A Narrative Essay On How Football Changed My Life

The summer before my Junior year, I was playing 7on7 football with my school against many other schools from around the area. On the first game out of four I was blocking this guy and when he cut back on his passing route I planted to change my direction, and my knee pumped. I had no logical idea of what had just happened, but the pain was immense. I went to the sidelines and my friends told me that I should stop crying and play the game that I was there to play. Running up and down the field, I played the rest of that game as well as the three more games that followed. Once the games had ended my knee was swollen and with every step pain reminded me that my knee was no longer in a healthy state. My dad had asked me if I wanted to go to the doctor, but I didn't want to hear what he had to say with football two-a days in two months. One week after the injury we went on a vacation to see family in England. I was using a suitcase in the airport to keep me upright as I walked. Not realizing my decision before of not going to the specialist was a mistake, but now I had to go a full month in an unknown country before I was able to see my doctor. One of the most difficult experiences of my high school career was watching the guys play the sport that have grown to love, football, without me. I missed two games and was incredibly out of shape, after all I was paralyzed from not interacting in two-a-day training. At the fifth week of being out I was allowed to ride a bike. Riding that bike for hours everyday as they were practicing was almost torture. I started my sophomore year at outside linebacker, now I was back at square one. Coach put me in at second quarter, and I let everyone know I was back with a pick and returned it for a touchdown.
