During the 1950s there were many social issues that reigned; however, civil rights were always king. Though they are usually thought of in regards to race, they can also apply to gender. What we see today is that men have a disproportionate amount of power and opportunity compared to women. In A Raisin in the Sun,a play by Lorraine Hansberry, we observe the Younger family, and after the family patriarch dies a check comes in and everyone wants a piece of it.
