In her speech, Cameron Russell, a model, addressed the issue of looks and how it affects a person’s life. She is presenting this topic to an audience that doesn’t necessarily portray the image of a model; she is speaking to a diverse audience. Her speech is addressing a ‘problem’ that many people might confront with, but which is an advantage for her -and that is appearance. She is analyzing how image can define a person and how other people define a person based on their aspect, which is after all very superficial. Because she is a model, with more than 10 years of experience, her opinion really matters to numerous girls and women who might feel insecure about their bodies.
Cameron Russell memorized her speech, which is based on research that she did or she experienced. Her information is mostly based on events that happened in her life or on facts. Non-verbal communication was key in her speech, since she talks about looks. She changed her appearance during the speech and she used gestures and typical model poses to show what she is describing and to, also, help her audience better understand the points she was trying to make. Her posture changes throughout the speech; she poses as a model and then she poses as herself. She used images to show that the real her, is a lot different than the “constructions” made by the professional photographers, makeup artists and hairstylists. Overall her speech did reach its goal since I was personally touch by what she said. I realized that maybe the people who have the “shiniest hair and then tinniest thighs” are more insecure of their looks than I will ever be, since for me looking at my best isn’t a career I want to
