The song is based on the bloody sunday event on 1972 during this event Irish nationalist were protesting for civil rights, during the protest british troops opened fire on dozens of unarmed civilians and massacred nearly everyone. The singer/songwriter Bono and the band U2 is from Northern Ireland and has lived through this event. The Band’s intention is to express the tragedies in song of what occurred that day. They didn’t praise anything for the most part they discussed the fact that neither party won between the Irish Nationalist and the British.
