Honestly, I didn’t really know much about A Streetcar Named Desire, so I didn’t know what expect out of the performance. Overall, I enjoyed the show and I think the cast did a great job. In the beginning of the show the director did mention the trigger warning of violence, but I wasn’t aware that the violence was domestic. Sitting beside me at the show was my best friend, who is past victim of domestic abuse from a high school relationship. I had to channel what we called in class “willing suspension of disbelief.” Seeing Stanley hit Stella was emotional for me because as I mention, I have a friend who dealt with many similar incidents. I would have to say the protagonist in the play was definitely Blanche. The story focused mainly on her. The book definition of antagonist is “the person who blocks the protagonist from getting what he or she want.” Therefore, I would have to say Stanley was the antagonist of the play. …show more content…
Everyone stayed in character, even as they were walking off stage they didn’t fall out of character until they were no longer in sight. Also, everyone Louisianan accent was actual really good to me. And with the help of the costumes the overall time period was captured really well. I definitely felt that we were in New Orleans in the 1940s. In chapter seven we talked about inner conflict. I felt that was something portrayed very well through the character Blanche as she was dealing with the loss of Allan.
