Everyone deserves freedom and equality, right? Well that is not what Yemen is getting at the moment. Yemen is at risk for a genocide in progress. Houthi rebels are trying to overthrow the government and change the whole nation to religious law. In the process, they have been mainly targeting homosexuals. As they are dying, the Houthis are also killing many innocent civilians. Although others might think Yemen is not at risk for genocide because the may not have millions of people dead, they are just at the beginning stages of a genocide, starting with a certain group of people being targeted over their sexuality.
The perpetrators of this genocide have already chosen their victims. They have began to murder homosexuals. They have already gotten

First of all, the Houthis should not force religion on people. Their plan was to have religious laws that everyone must follow. But the people of Yemen should be able to choose what they believe in. Simply, it is preference. And speaking of preference, the homosexuals that are targeted, should be allowed to have their preferences. Love is not a choice. “Yemen’s penal code prohibits same-sex relations. Sex between women is punishable by up to three years in prison and 100 lashes, while sex between men is punishable by whipping, imprisonment, and death by stoning” (refugeelegalaidinformation.org). Civilians. Innocent civilians. Innocent civilians, including homosexuals because they are causing absolutely no problems, should not have to deal with life threatening violence. “At least 398 children were killed and 605 wounded between late March and August as a result of the fighting in the country” (hrw.org). With a genocide in progress, families in Yemen can not live normal lives. Everyone will live in fear. Airstrikes and landmines are putting everyone in danger. Some may argue that these armed groups are doing their part in helping Houthis overthrow the government. In 2015, the Houthis and other armed groups, including tribal and Islamist militias such as Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), increased their recruitment, training, and deployment of children.” Others will thinks that the AQAP is improving because of their increase in recruitments. By doing so, they are actually breaking laws. “Under Yemeni law, 18 is the minimum age for military service. In 2014, the government signed a UN action plan to end the use of child soldiers” (hrw.org). By the Yemeni law, children can not be recruited as soldiers. It is wrong in the first place to have
