In the novel “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn,” the author displays traits of one of the main characters, Katie Nolan, by using specific details to demonstrate she is a realistic and an ambitious character. The author, Betty Smith, creates the character Katie as a person who never gives up no matter what she goes through. Katie has a very hard life. Readers can understand this very clearly about Katie and her family. All her life from being a Rommely to a Nolan, she has been unprivileged and in need of money.
