The narrative “A View of the Woods” was written by Flannery O Connor’s. The old man, Mr. Fortune, lives with his daughter, her husband Pitts, and his seven grandchildren, on his estate. Although, the old man believes they are all stupid, except the youngest one, Mary Fortune. The old man only cares about one of his seven grandchildren, Mary Fortune. Furthermore, Mr. Fortune loves the little girl because she has idolized him since birth. She is his favorite grandchild so he wanted to name her after his deceased mother, Mrs. Mary Fortune. The old man thinks the little girl Mary Fortune is more like him a Fortune than a Pitts. He believes she was the most beautiful child that he has ever seen. Nevertheless, the little girl looks like she’s afraid of her father Pitts, and tired of the old man checking her and his realm. The old man thinks the little girl's father is her biggest weakness and he dislikes it. For this reason, when the old man saw Pitts take the little girl out and beat her he was distraught. Then again, he believes she respects Pitts because he lashes her. The old man felt if he wants respect he would have to put a belt on her backside. When the old man tries to whip her, she was on him so fast he thought she was a gang of small demons. The little girl recited to the old man she is more a Pitts than a Fortune. Thus, when the old man hit the little girl head on the rock I believe she died and her image was of him. I want to say after the old man killed his granddaughter and lay helpless looking for someone to assist him is when he lost his control, identity, and property. Giving these facts, Mr. Fortune stubbornness destroyed him and the little girl's future. Finally, it seems like when the old man was taking Mary Fortune for a ride daily to watch the construction work he was watching his own life be destroyed with the
