In my opinion, I have been doing fairly well in this class. I switched schools from BASIS Medical Center, and this is the level of difficulty of almost all of my classes last year, so I could already predict my grade. However, last year, Honors English Language did not require me to compose a timed writing every week, and this therefore made it more challenging for me to keep my grade up if I did not score a minimum of 7 on the essays. The apparent pattern of using abstract example instead of concrete ones has been associated with a low score on my assignments. On the timed writings, I do better on them when I recycle any soaked up knowledge I have from my AP World History class this year. This allows me to use concrete historical examples and expand on them in regards to the thesis. Strategizing my examples in my essays has allowed me to do better in this course. To have a strong piece of writing, one must have a clear thesis because this is essentially the entire foundation of the paper. The effectiveness of a piece of writing lies in the evidence one uses and how well he or she is able to explain its significance while also tying the concrete example back to the thesis. This is a great deal to juggle in order to score high on the AP test. My portfolio adequately demonstrates these qualities with somewhat clear theses, especially when I construct one that is neither too restrictive nor too general. The nonhistorical examples do need some alterations, however, so to avoid getting off track, then later not being able to relate them back to the thesis.
