In the play, “The Crucible”, by Arthur Miller, the play is mainly about a small village is Salem, Massachusetts that consists of Puritans. Everyone is living in harmony. Suddenly, a young girl, Betty, is sick and people believe that this is the work of the devil. Many in the town believe that this was the Devil because before she got sick, Betty and her friends were caught dancing in the woods by Reverend Parris. This dancing was the practice of witchcraft. All of the girls, especially Abigail Williams were put to trial. During trial, they lied about and accused people of witchcraft. As a result, numerous of tragic deaths transpired. All of the girls were casting spells for the boys they admired to fall in love with them. It turned from a harmless event to something evil. Abigail took a live chicken and drank its blood. The purpose of this was to put a curse on Elizabeth Proctor. Abigail was in love with Elizabeth’s husband, John Proctor of whom she had an affair with. She wanted him all to herself, but he refused and admit that he made a mistake with being with Abigail. “(Proctor) But I will cut off my hand before I'll ever reach for you again (pg 839).” All of the girls started freaking out. They were then caught by Reverend Parris, the Uncle of Abigail Williams. She tried to lie about everything, but Parris knew something else was going on. “(Betty) You drank blood, Abby!
