Heaven or Hell how to tell. In the essay Letter from a recording angel by mark twain Abner scofield a man of good wealth will do anything to gain more and give less. The angel that is recording his prayers hears the thing that abner wants. In the essay it show what greed can do. Abner has appearances that he must keep up. People that see him think that he is a good church member. But the angel knows what scopfeild prayes for when he is alone after all. Abner pray that the weather may worsen that his coal may sell more. But he does not care about the people buying and what they are doing to keep their family’s warm. This show that he does not mean what he prayers for that they are only to make him look good in front of an audience. Abner acts well but when he say “damn to the missionary cause.” For he truly does not care for other but only for himself. Abner recevise a letter from his neace that is a widow with young children to send two dollars for help. The angel tell that “when certain sort of people do a sizable good deed, that they we credit them up to a thousand times more for it than we would in the case of a better man.” The angel then remark that in heaven there were many that could not believe that you could or would do this. The angel tone is snarky and sarcastic when they start to talk about how great the deeds of abner scofiel were. Then when abner sent four more dollars to the widow again to help her and her family. The angel writes that you were the talk in heaven once again. The letter goes on to tell that you then sent six dollars to your niece when one of her kid
