A teen having an unplanned pregnancy brings up the question whether or not they can go get an abortion without the consent of a parent. However, what if the parent does not believe in having an abortion and does not let the child get one? This is something to think about when deciding if a teen can get an abortion without their parental consent. In many states parents have the authority to make the decisions for their children under the age of eighteen stated that the child’s maturity level and ability to make informed decisions is not up to par. The teens are not ready for parenting, and feel that abortion is their best option.
At a time when schools are not allowed to give students aspirin without parental permission, teenage abortion is allowed without permission in over 20 states because it can affect their whole life after getting pregnant. Teenagers seek abortions for many reasons. Some are concerned about how a baby would change their lives and feel that they are not prepared or mature enough for the responsibility. Lack of money, partner or family support are reasons as well. Teenagers who decide to have the baby are more likely to drop out of school and rely on state assistance, so there is some basis for the fear of how a child will affect future plans. Because of all the factors that affect a teenager's decision, teens are more likely than other women to seek late abortions.
Teens that typically have to tell their parents about the pregnancy tend to lack the prenatal care that they need to receive. Being pregnant has many effects on you physically, mentally and emotionally. You will gain a lot of weight and become somewhat round. Some say your skin starts to glow known as the pregnant glow and you gain stretch marks. Your body feels tired, your back hurts and your feet swell. Teens get lazy and do not want to do work or go to school anymore so they either flunk out or drop out of school. At the same time they need a guardian to get the things they need throughout the pregnancy. Teenage girls who are pregnant, especially if they don't have support from their parents are at risk of not getting adequate prenatal care. Prenatal care is critical, especially in the first months of pregnancy.
