Abraham Lincoln was a beloved, yet controversial president. While Lincoln had it hard most of his childhood, he managed to turn it around. During his adult life, he accomplished very much in politics and built a fair reputation for himself. Abe became the 16th president of the United States of America, wrote the Emancipation Proclamation, and abolished slavery. Abraham’s rough beginnings turned around and shaped him into the man he was. He was born on February 12, 1809 in his family cabin in Hardin county, Kentucky. Abe’s mother, Nancy, died when he was nine years old from milk sickness. After his mother died, Abe became very lazy. The only time he would become active was to walk miles for a new book to read. A few months after Nancy’s death, his father, Tom Lincoln, remarried Sarah Johnson, a widow with three kids.
