Freedom of speech is the first amendment in the Bill of Rights, we do not see the public or the media scorn those who go against this undeniable right. This has been shown with the recent attacks on conservatives following the presidential election. Abraham Lincoln, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Fredrick Douglass are significant examples of why free speech is a right that needs to be expanded upon in the near future.
Can you imagine happiness in your world without the right to speak freely? Well that is what life was like for slaves working beneath the feet of their masters until Abraham Lincoln ratified the thirteenth amendment of the United States. Lincoln gave slaves no only the right to remove their shackles of slavery, but also the right to vote for their leaders, the right to choose where and what they do, and the right speak to mind freely. The quote, "With malice toward none; with charity for all: with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the light," from Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address shows the importance of freedom of speech. Her quote, "He has created false public sentiment, by giving to the world a different code of morals for man and woman, by which moral delinquencies which exclude women from society, are not only tolerated but deemed a of little account when committed by man.", is a perfect example of the hypocrisy in America today; as liberals can do irrational actions such as; throwing bricks at crowds, kidnapping, punching women, or even pouring bodily fluids on people for the sake of their cause but a conservative would get intensive backlash or even jail time for doing any of those actions.
