In the book The Absolutely Tue Diary of a Part- Time Indian by Sherman Alexie there are many scenarios where bullying has negatively affected the students. Bullying is an evident issue in the lives of many teens today. Bullying affects the lives of many teens by increasing their likelihood to being depressed, going through desperate measures to not be bullied and, decreasing their motivation. To begin, kids who are bullied are more likely to be depressed. Bullying Statistics states victims of bullying are more likely to suffer from depression than youth who are not involved in bullying (Bullying). Kids who are constantly being left out feel as if they have no hope to be a part of the “in” group. Students who are bullied can only think about their next attack which keeps them distracted from their schoolwork. Some students who feel judged rather not speak in front of an audience because they are afraid that their thoughts can make them even a bigger target.” If I’d been stronger, I would have stood up to her… but I was too broken” (Alexie, pg 175). Junior loved to learn but some teachers like Mrs. Jeremy just made it impossible for Junior. She was a factor that led him to be less motivated in school. Mrs. Jeremy humiliated him in front of the whole class but Junior had already suffered enough that it did not matter to him at that point.
