It is stated that “abstinence education” is a motivational program which teaches that there are social, psychological, and health profit to be made from abstaining from sexual activity. Abstinence education also shows children that sexual intercourse outside of marriage and faithfully monogamous relationships are social standards that are expected. The educational program that is currently implemented in schools conveys that sexual intercourse has psychological and physical side effects. Physical detriments that are to be avoided would be children whom are born out of wed-lock, sexually transmitted disease, and other health associated problems with sexual intercourse. Psychologically it is harmful to the child’s parents, the parents, and society. Abstinence gives children whom are receiving the education tools and strategies to avoid alcohol and drugs that could impair the mental process of abstaining from sex.
Many people believe that Sexual Education goes into great depth and is age inappropriate; contrary to belief sexual education is age and culturally appropriate. The sexual education course also helps the students to understand their own individual values as well as the values that are held by their parents and society.
