Regarding recent tragic situational crisis events have shown that an active shooter incident can take place wherever and at any moment, even on a U.S. Army military instillation. There have been several active shooting situations on military instillations but the more notable events has happened at Fort Hood Army Base. The most tragic active shooter incident took place when a U.S. soldier carried out the largest mass murder at a military installation in American history, opening fire on dozens of unarmed soldiers at a medical deployment center. 13 people were killed and another 32 were wounded. The second was when an Iraq War veteran opened fire on the base, killing three and injuring 16 others before committing suicide (nbc.com, 2013). The question we should ask ourselves now is; are U.S. Army bases prepared for another active shooter crisis on their instillations that implements a carefully thought out situational crisis communication theory to aid them in protecting the government against crises? In the event of an active shooter on an Army base, the government falls under the victim cluster do to workplace violence. There is no actual way to solve this type of crisis but there are ways the Army to address its victims and the public of what the Army is doing to repair the situation. The Army must be willing to talk to the news media as well as the general public through social media (twitter, Facebook, goarmy.com, etc.) during this type of crisis. This type of crisis could affect potential recruits and their influencers about deciding if they want to join the Army. War has been one of the top reasons people do not join the military.
