Activity Description and Summary In this activity, I was a part of my math department that implemented a new RtI program for the math students that struggle in geometry to get extra one-on-one tutoring and improve their test scores in that area. “By examining other sources of data, including contextual information about the school and the community in conjunction with achievement scores, you can begin to understand the circumstances around test scores and then identify instructional areas that could be improved.” (Flowers & Carpenter, 2009, p. 64) I would go through each of my classes test and homework scores, choose five to seven students that are struggling on their tests and assignments and assign them to the tutoring, and create lessons that reinforce the material they are learning. When looking at observation notes from the special education math teachers, the students were not receiving the same material that the regular students were getting. One of the first thing I will need to do is to make sure that the math department helps the special education department in creating a curriculum that will be easy to follow for the students and get them all the information they need to be successful on the test. I will make sure that the special education teachers get the support they need to help make this improvement and I will help them in implementing these changes to their curriculum. I will also plan for time for the math department to collaborate together with the special education teachers so that they can help one another in understanding the material and to work together in creating instructional practices that will benefit all types of
