I walked up to see her face one last time, before they close the casket. July 16, 2032 must have been the worst day for me to live through. It was the day Adalyn Adaiker had died in the bombing of the Statue of Liberty. That day is on a constant loop in my mind, I don't think I'll ever forget the screams and images.

“Alright, the car is packed Ezra, let's get going before traffic hits”, Adalyn called out.

We drove miles and miles listening to the radio, telling stupid, amusing stories of our childhood. That car ride itself could have been an ideal vacation for the two of us, it was a blast. I learned a great deal about her that day.

Looking up while stuck in the traffic, I could see the silhouette that looks to be the Statue of Liberty.

I started to put a foot onto the first step, then looked up, we had a long way to climb till Adalyn and I reach the crown. Adalyn was right behind me smiling ear to ear.

The roar of planes got louder and louder as it neared the Statue of Liberty. It all then made sense; a man being pulled to the side and hearing fighter planes nearing. Without a chance to act out, siren blared for evacuation. I looked around to see all the smiles instantly go to frowns and confused faces.

It was man for man, running to make it out alive. Glancing out the window, a blur of silver appeared. That blur soon came out to be 3 fighter jets heading straight towards us. Screams of horror rung in my ear. I needed to jump off the ledge of the staircase to safety. Adalyn didn't jump after me. I couldn't grasp the idea I just left her to die. Next thing I knew, a huge missile was blasted in her direction.

I hurt all over, I didn’t want to open my eyes scared of what I would see. I tried to lift my arm to try and make it out alive. There had been barely any square inch of the floor that wasn't covered with wreckage. I managed to practically bear crawl to get out of what seemed like a demon’s
