Adnan Syed is the victim of one of the worst crimes known to mankind: False accusation. Adnan was a model student, did well in sports, and was simply just a kid in the wrong place at the wrong time. The majority of the case that the prosecution displayed to the jury relies on the word of Jay, someone who lied multiple times in his police interview until he found the right story. Additionally, at the time of the trial there were many unanswered questions revolving around the location of Adnan and Hae throughout the evening, which can now be answered to some degree. Adnan could not have committed Hae’s murder due to the fact that Jay’s story was incomplete and often varied, and that evidence has surfaced which sheds new light on that afternoon. A woman named Summer who knew Hae when the two of them went to Woodlawn contacted Sarah Koenig while she was working on Serial. Summer proceeded to tell Koenig that she had seen Hae the afternoon of the incident during the time that she was said to have been murdered. Summer says that, “2:36 would not have been possible,” due to the fact that she was talking to Hae about the wrestling match that was occurring that day after school between 2:30 and 2:45, (Episode 9). If what Summer said is true, then it proves that Adnan could not have killed Hae at the time that Jay said she did, further enhancing the idea that Jay is an untrustworthy individual and that Adnan must be innocent. Additionally, due to the phone call records, Koenig finds it very unlikely that Adnan could have committed the crime had he not killed Hae by the 2:36 phone call.
