Advantages And Disadvantage Of UCR (NIBRS)

Like UCR, NIBRS has lists of advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages, and I think the most important, is NIBRS provides information on almost every possible major crimes haunting the United States and Law enforcement today. This offenses range from the more common drug offenses, to the more rare, terrorism and all crimes in between. This means that not only are the violent crimes reported, but the crimes again people, property and even victimless crime can be evaluated and reported.
Another advantage of NIBRS is that it is required by law enforcement officers to report numerous offense, offenders and victims although it may be one single incident. By doing so, analyst are able to asses each separate offense with every incident of crime. Unlike UCR, NIBRS supplies data about cases including simple assault (Maxfield, & Babbie, 2012). NIBRS provides police officers and officers of the law more in depth information and data than before. This information and data can be used for training, planning researching and decision making.

Researchers must work together in a collaborative effort to share data and ideas to build a knowledge base on crime in a systematic manner. The researcher should use all the tools that are available (NCS, UCR, SR,) in an effort of broadening the amount of characteristics that can be incorporated such as the police force size, drug use and market activity, age, incarceration, wages, urban or rural areas. The use of each different system each has its own strength and weakness, but each system allows the researcher to have a more precise view of crime that will allow the researcher to produce and generalize data while including vital qualitative
