Throughout the novel “The Shallows” by Nicholas Carr, it is revealed that the Internet has numerous adverse effects on the human mind, such as impairing our ability to think deeply and lowering our concentration. This occurs because “...‘hyperlinks distract people from reading and thinking deeply’” (Carr, 138) and these hyperlinks are found on every single webpage, linking users to websites besides the ones they are already on. As users see the hyperlinks, they are propelled to click on them, believing that the links will take them to more relevant information. As a result, the internet drives us to spend more time browsing the internet than spending time with others and causes our attention to drift throughout conversations, making us
