I am a debater. Which means, that I like to argue and intelligently demolish all arguments regarding why I could possibly be wrong. Naturally, I like to watch the final round videos from the Nation Speech and Debate Association's National Tournament. It was a time like this that I was watching the final round of Original Oratory. The boring announcer said the performer's code and Ariana Uriah Okhuozagbon walked out on stage to perform, "A Sticky Situation." In her oratory, she discusses the dangers of changing the past to fit what we want the story to say, only changing history affects the future. As the author's mother says, "Don't try to change your past...it's the only truth you've got" (Okhuozagbon). The speaker also brings up the story of Rosie the Riveter and how she was originally created to help women take factory jobs and gain jobs during World War II. …show more content…
Okhuozagbon uses logos to point out that, "due to social interests, the image of Rosie was changed, in order to motivate particular action. Just like those trying to rewrite or reframe our history, in order to motivate their own interest" (Okhuozagbon). Those who try and change the past, often do so because they are motivated by some sort of self or specific interest. Logically, if the changing of the image of Rosie was changed to motivate particular interests, then people changing history must be doing so to motivate particular interests.
