There are two words that mean a lot when it comes to education within the African American race; Aspirations and expectations. Even though education beyond high school has increased, among African Americans, it still has not reached the levels of Caucasians at that level. It was up to me to succeed or not succeed in life.
African American women, who make up 13 percent of the female population in the United States, are making significant strides in education, participation, health, and other areas, but there is a long way to go to fully close the racial and ethnic disparities.

These two words carry a lot of weight as to whether or not a student will complete high school and go to college. According to NAACP, “African Americans are more likely to attend high poverty schools that is, public schools where than 75 percent of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch and are less liable to graduate from high school and subsequently attend college at rates lower than any other racial group.” (NAACP).I It is essential that parents encourage and help kids aim towards their dreams. Each generation has an opportunity to climb the social ladder quicker, but it is harder than previous generations due to increased cost of living and advancements in technologies. In the sixties, jobs were easily obtained. Many people could leave one job and go across the street to get another. Many individuals had less than tenth-grade education.
