The cultural presentation of African Americans very in social media as well as movies, music and television sets a tone of suppression and adds fuel to the fire of racism against the African American group; while making stereotypes stronger through the action and reactions of this group. Cultural presentations of the African American group have recently been associated with media coverage of the Black Lives Matter Movement and the numerous newscasts that highlight African Americans fighting against law enforcement, claiming that they are victims of discrimination no matter what the scenario set into place. There are two spectrums when it comes to spreading the African American cultural image. When we are exposed to negative media coverage of African Americans which is focused on crimes and riots of African American groups which leaves a heavy weighted stereotype that is applied to African American who may relate to the covered demographic because of their socioeconomic status, origin of residence, family practices, marital status, or any other non-traditional lifestyle practice that contradicts the status quo. This attaches a negative connotation to the lower class African American minority which is then spread across nearly the entire culture. Even when a portion of a race displays essentialism aside from the class their race has been placed within, they will commonly be divided from that race and is prone to internalized racism because they wish to disassociate themselves from their race and the stereotypes attached to it. This has been an up and coming trend amongst younger generations in the African American race which also seems to lead to a higher number in High School graduation and secondary education enrollment. Any African American faces everyday image challenges regardless what environment they step into. Rather it be in television, music, education, or career, African Americans struggle with blending into society because of the idea that they are violence driven, uneducated, and less capable than other races. An African American male is thought to be someone who does what he has to to make money in conventional ways such as drug trade and who is not present in his children’s lives, or is violent towards them and his significant other. The media has portrayed them as sex driven beings who are only motivated by women and money which comes from modern rap music. Again, the media focuses on deviant acts of African American’s which has lead to males of this race to be seen as armed and dangerous men who are expected to rob or rape their communities which creates this feeling of caution from other races when an African American male of the middle or lower class is present. Higher class African American males are expected to be business men who may not perform with an acceptable work ethic in order to succeed or make more profit in their respective line of employment. Media is quicker to promote African American females as independent and able to provide their own necessities, yet there is a level of disrespect towards males of all races in a way
