Maya Angelou was unfortunate to have grown up during the 1940’s. Maya’s education was extremely poor. If she had been raised during the 1960’s, Maya would have grown up during a time where education was changing for her race.
Before the 1960’s racism was a huge part of African Americans lives, especially when it came to education. Education was very limited because they didn’t have enough supplies, teachers, or money to be able to provide a good learning program for students. During the 1960’s more opportunities were given to African Americans. They were segregated into white schools, allowing them to to have the same education as white people did.
