Do you know what it’s like to be held captive and to do work for someone even though you don’t want to? The Atlantic slave trade was a gruesome time towards slaves which were African Americans held captive by either the Portuguese, Spanish, or the English. The leading cause of slavery in the 16th- the 19th century was that the Spanish, English, and the Portuguese were profiting from the exploitation of African Americans which were used for workers in the Americas in order to produce cheap material for others. 3 main reasons for this was population growth, exploitation of slaves, and cheap materials. All of these reasons were considered profit towards the places that slaves were held, in the Americas. First, slavery really affected growth in the Americas which then profited them due to the fact that there were more people. The Americas then grew more and more and didn’t have to pay them so this then helped grow cheap materials. Furthermore, cheap materials were used in which we didn’t need to spend as much money to build things, such as houses, buildings, etc. This helped save money to use for other things which helped profit the Americas. The Americas could then have slaves build the things in need out of the cheap materials used. In conclusion, in the 16th- 19th centuries the Americas profited greatly due to these 3 reasons, population growth, exploitation of the slaves, and cheap materials. All of these helped benefit the Americas greatly due to profit gain. The Americas then became very powerful and great due to money changes, therefore it became big with the population growing to make it now what is called the United States of
