It was a white women’s suffrage movement, however African American women such as Mary Church Terrell were not going to be ignored which resulted in the National Association of Colored Women coming into existance (Lewis). They fought for social, moral, and economic equality and welfare for women and children while simultaneously fighting for an end to racial discrimination. Although these efforts did not led to major changes overall of the social conditions for African Americans, the organizations during this time created stronger African American communities with better economic assistance and healthcare which promoted living conditions for those living in the communities.
