Smartphone and tablet subscriptions are growing rapidly. In a June 2012 report from Ericsson, at year-end 2012 there will be approximately 1 billion smartphone subscribers and 250 million mobile PC and tablet subscribers globally. Over the next five years, mobile subscriptions will continue to grow modestly, while the penetration of smartphones, HT smartphones, and mobile broadband subscribers is forecast to increase rapidly and substantially. Consider that slightly more than half of the world’s population will have access to the Internet on their mobile device by 2017. (Knudsen, 2013)
I think that in the period 2014 to 2016 most of us would use two main mobile devices are tablet smartphone. These will not look very different from today's devices but they will be thinner and lighter. However, I predict that they will get new OS and platforms along with innovative apps that allow us interact with them in a number of new ways. For examples, mostly we can talk to them instead of just typing on them. Consumers will have access to everything, not just everyone. All our electronics will sync on a shared operating system. Mobile shopping will be far more commonplace and more sophisticated. We will not need electric plug-ins to charge our mobile devices. Instead of charging by electricity, future mobile devices will be automatic recharge by scholar powered or motion energy.
Besides, all we will get chances to welcome mobile gadgets in future. First on the list is Google Glasses. This is an augmented reality head-mounted display, allowing hands-free access to the web. The product resembles normal eyeglasses where the lens is replaced by a small electronic screen. It provides interaction via natural language voice commands, as well as eye-tracking technology. A miniature gyroscope can tell the user's position and orientation at all times. On the side frame is audio output, and a touch control pad, while on top is a button for recording photos and videos with a built-in camera.
