The focus of this investigation is to explore the question: To what extent did the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933 help increase the purchasing power of farmers ? The investigation will go in depth about the actions the Agricultural Adjustment Act took, and if they proved effective in enhancing the purchasing power of farmers. This will be done mainly by comparing the difference of purchasing power of farmers from 1932 to 1937. The first source that will be evaluated is T.H. Watkins book “The Hungry years” which was published in 1999. The origin of the source is valuable because Watkins is a Professor of Western American Studies at Montana State University who has published multiple works, some becoming national book award finalists. …show more content…
The origin of the source is shown to be valuable because it is able to express Dixon as a reliable source because Dixon Wecter has served as a history professor in the university of Sydney as well as express that he has published multiple works on the Great Depression that covers the general life of people and acts taken during the time to help the U.S. and its economic situation. This allows historians studying acts in the Great Depression to know that Dixon Wecter has an exceptional understanding on the topic as well as shows his credibility on the subject. Additionally, the date the book was published also serves to enhance its value because it shows that the book when being written was only twelve years away from the time when the Agricultural Adjustment act was around, this is valuable because it shows historians studying acts in the great depression that Dixon Wecter was able to see the acts success or failure first hand.
