Albuterol is a medication that opens airways in the lungs, which makes it easier to breathe. The medication is prescribed to every one out of twelve people. I chose albuterol as my compound to research because it was somewhat familiar to me. As a person that suffers from asthma, I have heard doctors say “Albuterol inhaler.” At the time of being diagnosed with asthma, I had no idea what albuterol was. Now, I have the opportunity to research this compound and educate myself on what I inhale on a daily basis. I am interested in how albuterol effects the lungs and human brain. Albuterol, scientifically named salbutamol, has the molecular weight of 239.39 g/mol. The molecular formula for albuterol is C13H21NO3, or thirteen carbon, twenty hydrogen, and three nitrate molecules. Albuterol generally comes in a liquid point which has the boiling point of about 157 degrees celsius.
In 1966, albuterol was discovered by David Jack and his

Firstly, albuterol relaxes and opens air passages which makes it easier to breathe. Generally, when patients are prescribed an albuterol inhaler, they are given a nebulizer, or a machine that turns liquid into and aerosol mist. Because albuterol is transformed into a mist, it is inhaled through the mouth or nose.
On the other hand, there are also many health risks to albuterol. When an overdose of albuterol takes place, it causes many side effects including: sweating, feeling light-headed or fainting, dry mouth, chest pain or heavy feeling, seizure, rapid or uneven heart rate, pain spreading, nausea, and dizziness.
Ultimately, Albuterol affects the earth's atmosphere negatively. CFCs, or gases in aerosol propellants, consume the ozone in the stratosphere. The ozone protects earth from the sun’s extreme ultraviolet radiation. Ultraviolet radiation is lessened by the ozone layer which keeps high levels of ration from reaching earth. Loss of the ozone causes an increase in skin cancers and
